Is it a solid part 2

As a class we can agree on the following as solids: rock, rubberband, feather, cloth, foam rubber ball, sponge, wood, iron nail, and ice

Let's focus our discussion on baby powder, dust, sugar, flour, and melting wax.

Some of our class think they are solid and some think they are liquid.  Chose a side and try to convince us with facts.  If you comment, your comments need to be more than "I agree"

I really liked the discussion last night and I am hoping that tonight is EVEN better!

News FLASH>>   We are still undecided about smoke.  If you can find evidence I will give tickets!

  2. I agree with you Kaitlyn that melting wax and baby powder are most likely liquid because it isn't hard, its most likely soft, and light. I'm not sure how to describe it but yeah!

  3. Have you consitered that baby powder, dust, flour, and sugar are solids because even in powder there is litte solid grams.Melting wax is a liquid because melting wax can take shape of an object.

  4. Ya, I agree with Claire because the little grains in the powder and sugar which make is a solid. right?

  5. I agree with you Claire.A. because I think baby powder , dust, flower, and sugar are solids because even though they take a shape of an object they are not like water and they are not like a gas. I think melting wax is a liqued because it is not a solid or a gas.

  6. I dont think dust is a solid, but I agree with the others that they are a solids.

  7. I also agree with claire because I think that baby powder is a solid and that melting wax is a liquid because it is runny. But when it dries it turn into a solid though because it hardens

  8. Hey guys -- here is something I just found on the web. Looks like a cloud is a liquid, not a gas.

"Clouds, snow, and rain are all made of up of some form of water. A cloud is comprised of tiny water droplets and/or ice crystals, a snowflake is an aggregate of many ice crystals, and rain is just liquid water."

  22. I get it now even though baby powder, dust, and flour do not act like solids they still are because they still have little bits of solids in them.

  23. Why whould clouds be a liquid not a gas?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think that clouds are part liquid and part gas because clouds have liquid in them and gas in them. How else would it rain if liquid water wasn't in them?

  25. I agree with nicole because it could not rain with out water in the air.

  26. Way to go Dylan! Clouds are not gas

  31. Cool facts. Did you know that the average human brain has about 100 billion nerve cells.

  32. I think that the melting wax is a solid because when you put it on its a liquid and when you let it sit it becomes a solid. I think that if there is 2 answers it would have to be the last one so the conclusion is that it is a solid.!

  33. Yaser- I agree with you about that. Those are all solids

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think those are all solid. They have own shape in the normal temperature.

  36. Baby powder I think is a solid also melting wax.

  37. I agree with you Melanie because the stuff that makes dust is a solid!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think that melting wax is still solid because and can forn into a shape which makes it a solid

  39. i am confused with these conersation

    ReplyDelete
  40. I am confused to is it solid or what is it

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think its pretty avious that a cloud is a liquid. Because it rains!

  42. There is not a homework secion so I am going to do it on hear. the solids are a refrigerator a golfball a binder and the liquids are steam and carbonated water
