I'm trying to keep track of how far I walk every day but I forgot to wear my pedometer on my trip last week. I could use your help to figure this one out. At the Denver Airport, I landed at gate B11 and walked to gate B43. Then they changed the gate to B29. I counted and I take 39 steps to get from one gate to another. But there's more information you need to figure in.
Between gate B29 and B31 is a shopping plaza that measures 52 steps.
Between gate B35 and B37 is a food court that measures 173 steps.
Do you want steps or length?
ReplyDeleteHow far is a step in length?
From, Melanie, Georgia B., and Georgia L.
How many steps are in a miles?
ReplyDeleteWell kelsie and i think you to measure to get your answer you have to ask mrs mikelman to see how big or smaioll her step was.
ReplyDelete1 mile = 5280 ft
ReplyDeleteYou all have good questions. I want the answer in feet or yards or miles. Do you think I really walked miles? It felt like it!
ReplyDeleteMs. Charles and I also discovered this problem was harder than we thought. Our answers were different and we had to work together to solve it. I can't wait to see some solutions!.
Mrs. Mikelman
Nicole find the answer and told her group and we tried it and we agree with her.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the answer? I don't see it.
ReplyDeleteThe answer is 1,464 steps and 4,392 feet.
ReplyDeleteMary Ann, can you explain how you found your answer? Feel free to scan or make a movie if it's too hard to type it out!
ReplyDeleteFirst you would list all the gates and then circle that are odd and then you multiply that number by 39 that number than add the food court and shopping plaza to get the steps from B11 to B43 which is 810. Then she has to go from B48 to B29 and to get that you have to list all the gates in between. Then times that answer by 39 then add the food court and shopping plaza again because you go past it again. So you get the answer 459. Then you add the 2 together. Which leads to the answer being 1,269 steps and but how would you convert it into feet because on the blog it only has miles=feet no inches or feet = steps.
ReplyDeleteWell, we haven't got the answer yet but I am still trying at home. I can tell you how we got our mistake. At first I didn't read the passage correctly. So I forgot to add the shops and the Food Court leant.

ReplyDeleteI added up how many steps where imbetween each gate and got 249.
ReplyDeleteFirst I counted all the gates in between b11 and b43 but forgot it was only the odd numbers. Then I subtracted 39 from 52 and 173. Then I multiplyed 39 times 32. But I forgot to divide 32 by 2. Then I added the diffrences that I got when I subtracted. Then I counted the gates from b29 to b43. Then I multiplyed 39 by 14 and added the differnce I got ealier. But I forgot to divide the gates by 2 so I restarted and did the proccess over again and divided the number of gates by 2.
ReplyDeletei think it is 1,464 steps and 4,392 feet
ReplyDeleteI haven't got the answer yet but I'm still working on it.
ReplyDeleteime trieing really hard but cant get it still trieing
ReplyDeleteThe answer is 1,464steps and 4,392 feet
ReplyDeletewe did this queston in class the other day all my work is in my folder and i forgot.:(
ReplyDeleteI agree with josh its 1,464 steps and 4,392
ReplyDeleteYaser you are so smart because you got the correct answer.:)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mary Ann that it is 1,464 steps and 4,392 feet. Mrs.Charles Said that each of Ms.Michelman's steps are three feet.
ReplyDeleteI like that you are telling me how you are finding the answer! Remember what I said in class. You have to add more than "I agree". Feel free to tell what went wrong or if you found your answer a different way. An incomplete answer will be marked as incomplete homework.
ReplyDeleteI am really happy with Georgia L and Trace for putting a lot there! Five dots a piece for your group!
@ Daniel Try to remember what your group did or try to solve it at home again. Then comment again. :)
ReplyDelete@ Seth Tell me how you got your answer, too!
I do remember Mrs. Charles saying the he steps were 3 feet so u mutliply the number of gates by 3 feet thats how I got my awnser
ReplyDeleteI got 1,317 steps
ReplyDeleteI was TOTALLY STUMPED by this question i did it about 1000 times in class and didn't get one answer right! i was so frustrated i even tried doing it in art class. but the answers i always had were in between 1,073 and 1,113
ReplyDeleteOkay,so I got 1,464 steps so far. I got that answer because I counted the steps from gate b11 to gate b43 (I used the odd numbers.)But then I found out that the steps ms.Michelman took were three steps at a time[thanks Jaksn for posting that on the blog! man I could of goten the answer wrong!}I added up all the numbers and found out the total was 1,464

ReplyDeleteIm sorry you multiply the steeps by 3 not add them and thats how I got my answer.
ReplyDeleteHey Dylan how did you get 1,317 steps?
ReplyDelete@ Asaad- Great job!!! 5 dots for your group.
ReplyDeleteWe need to see how many of your steps would go into a mile because I could not do my steps to figure it out or my moms. It would have to be yours because everybody's step is a different size.
ReplyDelete@ Jaikin- Someone measured Mrs. Mikelman's stride. It was about 3 feet for every step.
ReplyDeletei did not get this done because i did the otherone.:(
ReplyDeleteI'm so proud of your perseverance! Mrs. Charles and I had to work on this one together so we could get it right too! I kept adding gates + steps. You can't add apples + oranges. You have to convert gates --> steps THEN add them together. I know this is hard. That's the point! I love seeing your work, especially from so far away. Keep it up.
